So, I went for a jog in the early evening last night. (I’ve been jogging mostly out of pure boredom and from feeling so lazy.) It had been sprinkling on and off all day, so I thought, no big deeeal. OH WAIT, YES, IT WAS A BIG DEAL. I was running in Central Park, about to start my run home, and lightning literally struck down next to me. I screamed for dear life and took off sprinting, and everyone else in the park screamed and ran to their cars. As I’m running, I hear a man yell, “This is God’s way of telling us to get the FUCK out of here!!!” haha. So I’m running through alleys to try to take short cuts because the rain has just started pouring in waves now, and I can barely see anything in front of me except rain, which kind of looked like people sometimes. I had to cross a road to get to the next part of an alley, and I look to my left and see lightning strike down again, this time hitting the traffic light, causing it to light up and start sparking everywhere. “DEAR GOD.” So I just keep running, and I tried to hide out under this creepy little barn thing until I realized that the storm was coming my way and that my only option was to outrun it. So I take off sprinting again, and the wind is so strong that it’s pulling off the garage doors that I’m running next to…so I’m dodging those, and thinking, “I am going to get struck by lightning. I’m soaking wet, I’m running in deep puddles, surrounded by trees…I’m going to get struck by lightning.” I could see the steeple of the church I work in, so I knew I was close but it was still soooo far awayyyy. One man was sitting in a van in the alley I was running through and he was screaming “GOOOOO! GOOOOO! GOOOO!” haha…I didn’t feel like any of this was real. I finally got home and into my apartment, took my soaking wet clothes off, and sat on the ledge of the bathtub to try and catch my breath. Then all of these sirens started going off, and glass in the alley next to me was breaking (windows? I don’t know)…anyway, it all passed after an hour or so. BUT IT WAS SO SCARY. Then that night, when I went to a movie, all of Bardstown road (the busiest/hippest road in town) was dark because no one had power. Apparently the number is up to 119,000 who don’t have power right now. The movies did somehow, and it was packed, and there was one bar on the road who must’ve had a generator and it was probably the most profitable night of that bar’s life. haha. When I came home from the movie, I saw on the opposite side of where the glass was breaking next to my building, an entire tree was down! I didn’t even hear that happen, but I was glad it didn’t fall where I was running on my way back to the building. SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESH.
